The Therapeutic Massage evening program is a 21 month (7 term) program that prepares students with a strong knowledge base and professional skills in therapeutic massage. Therapeutic massage is a branch of complementary health care that works to improve a person’s health and well-being through hands-on manipulation of muscles and other soft tissues of the body. Massage therapists work in a variety of settings such as spas, medical settings, health clubs, corporate franchises and private practice. Upon successful completion of the classroom, laboratory and clinical portions of the program, the student will graduate with a diploma in Therapeutic Massage. Graduates are eligible to apply to take the Massage Board licensing examination (MBLEX).
The evening (and some weekends) program is especially designed to allow students to work during the day and train as a massage therapist in the evening. Courses are taken in the classroom and online.
To apply for the program, prospective students must complete an IHCC application, submit high school transcripts of High School Equivalency Diploma scores and take the ACT or COMPASS test. To contact the testing center, call (641) 683-5142 or (800) 726-2585, extension 5142. The therapeutic Massage program begins in the Fall term of each year.
Criminal background, physical examination with documentation of immunizations and dependent adult and child abuse record checks are required prior to the clinical courses.
