Disability Services/Accommodations

Disability Services office for assistance. Services are available to students who need classroom accommodations, interpreters and/or specialized equipment.

Students who are requesting accommodations must document their disability by providing a written statement signed by a school counselor, physician, psychologist or other health care professional. Statements must include: (a) a description of the disability, (b) a statement of how the disability prohibits one or more major life activities and is a barrier to the student’s full participation in the program, and (c) a description of the specific accommodations to be provided. (Requested accommodations must be related to the individual’s specific disability.)

All requests for accommodations should be made prior to enrollment.

Students should make their requests for accommodations to the Disability Services office at the time they are applying for admission and, preferably, no later than six weeks prior to the beginning of each academic term. All student requests are dealt with in a confidential manner. Program Learning Outcomes

The following list of program learning outcomes describes the knowledge and skills the student should be able to demonstrate upon completion of the program.

  • Explain basic principles of heating/cooling systems, components and design.
  • Illustrate basic concepts of heat exchanges, refrigerant flow control and types of fuels.
  • Develop proper procedures for installation, piping and venting of heating/cooling systems.
  • Analyze the operational theory and procedures, part identification, replacement and unit repair.
  • Apply proper installation and troubleshooting techniques for basic controls and related devices in HVAC systems.
  • Identify acceptable refrigerant management procedures in recovery/recycle/reclaim refrigerants.
  • Recognize basic provisions of the Clean Air Act and Montreal Protocol as they pertain to the service technician.
  • Develop basic concept of direct and alternating currents that apply to the HVAC industry.
  • Apply proper practices of general safety, including EPA, OSHA, SDS, and PPE


  • No horseplay at any time.
  • Safety glasses must be worn when operating power tools.
  • No application of power to any lab project until the instructor approves the wiring.
  • Equipment and tools are required to be back each day.
  • A Clean workspace is the student’s responsibility each day.  In other words, if you make a mess, clean it up.
