Disability Services/Accommodations

Individuals with disabilities who require accommodations for special services should contact the IHCC Disability Services office for assistance. Services are available to students who need classroom accommodations, interpreters and/or specialized equipment.

Students who are requesting accommodations must document their disability by providing a written statement signed by a school counselor, physician, psychologist or other health care professional. Statements must include: (a) a description of the disability, (b) a statement of how the disability prohibits one or more major life activities and is a barrier to the student’s full participation in the program, and (c) a description of the specific accommodations to be provided. (Requested accommodations must be related to the individual’s specific disability.)

All requests for accommodations should be made prior to enrollment.

Students should make their requests for accommodations to the Disability Services office at the time they are applying for admission and, preferably, no later than six weeks prior to the beginning of each academic term. All student requests are dealt with in a confidential manner. Program Learning Outcomes

The following list of program learning outcomes describes the knowledge and skills the student should be able to demonstrate upon completion of the program.

• Graduates will be able to design and produce visually appealing and professional websites utilizing industry standard software.
• Graduates will be able to manage and maintain an organization’s web presence.
• Graduates will understand various forms of social media platforms and how to effectively integrate them into the overall marketing strategy of an organization.
• Graduates will be able to develop Internet Marketing strategies.
• Graduates will be able to apply basic design fundamentals and principles to print and web solutions.
• Graduates will be able to create innovative print and web solutions utilizing industry standard software, including but not limited to: logos, corporate identity, posters, advertising, multimedia and web design.
• Graduates will be able to write effectively for the web.
• Graduates will be able to produce an online portfolio that showcases individual technical and Graphic communication skills.
• Graduates will be able to deliver effective oral and written presentations.
• Graduates will have a clear command of the written English language and be able to produce content that is free of spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors.

Lab Rules

• Lab users should maintain professional and courteous communication.
• Electronic devices should be used in a professional manner.
• No obnoxious distractions or behaviors will be tolerated. Bring headphones.
• Please operate the equipment with respect and care.
• Excessive use of paper and materials may require college reimbursement.
• Do not modify any software or files or overwrite the operating system.
• For any hardware, software, printer, paper, or ink problems, please contact IHCC Helpdesk.
• College policy requires compliance with all U.S. copyright laws. Copying software without appropriate authorization violates these. laws. Illegal use of materials in the labs is grounds for denial of use of the labs and confiscation of illegally used materials.
• Any failure to follow these lab rules may result in the loss of your lab privileges.

Laptop Requirements

Here are the machine requirements for those students enrolling in the Computer Software Development, Interactive Media Technology, Geospatial Technology or Cyber Security and Systems Administration degrees. Students will need to own their own laptop for class use before their second term.

The software required for you to initially own is listed in the following table.  Other software for class use will be available from instructions given in class.  Some of the software installed during class is only for educational use and not to be used for profit.

USB Memory storage of 8 gigabytes is expected for storing and sharing files. Backup of class work can be done on cloud drives and/or USB Memory storage.

Netbooks (such as Chromebooks) are not recommended because they have lower RAM and graphic capabilities.

If you want to use a Mac computer, you should check with your instructors first.  Several programs you will use in classes are only Window based.

If there is a problem with your computer, not all warranties guarantee that you will have a replacement computer for immediate use.  In the past, students have been without a computer for several days while waiting for theirs to be fixed or replaced which caused them to fall behind with assignments.  As a student, you should be prepared with alternative means to complete your computer-based assignments in the event your main computer is out of commission.
