Aviation Maintenance Technology, A.A.S.

Offered at North Campus

This 21-month (seven-term), FAA Part 147 approved program is designed to include training in the latest methods in the aircraft maintenance technology industry.

Students will have the opportunity to work with a variety of aircraft and engines while working towards the completion of the program. Upon completion, students will be eligible to take the Federal Aviation Administration examination for licensing as an Airframe and Power plant technician. Certification testing is available on campus.

Certification leads to employment in the aviation industry with fixed base operations, airlines, overhaul/repair stations, and aircraft manufacturers.

The program has been approved by the State Department of Veterans’ Affairs to receive education benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

Students meeting all program and graduation requirements receive an Associate of Applied Science degree.  This program may transfer for further study toward a four-year baccalaureate degree. Students may also transfer or dual enroll in IHCC’s Avionics Electronic Technician diploma program.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of certificated Airframe and Powerplant Technician privileges and limitations under the FAA regulations. 
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of FAA forms. aircraft records and maintenance publications required to be used by Airframe and Powerplant Technicians. 
  3. Perform, interpret, calculate, and record aircraft weight and balance information. 
  4. Demonstrate an understanding of basic electrical principles, D/C and A/C circuit theory, current generation methods, aircraft batteries, and wiring practices. 
  5. Perform aircraft ground operations and servicing procedures. 
  6. Demonstrate operation, inspection, rigging, servicing, repair, and troubleshooting procedures for airframe systems and components. 
  7. Demonstrate operation, inspection, rigging, servicing, repair, and troubleshooting procedures for turbine and reciprocating engines, systems, and components. 
  8. Understand, recognize, and apply fundamental scientific principles that apply to aviation maintenance. 
  9. Identify, select, and install aircraft hardware and materials.  
  10. Fabricate, inspect, repair, and preserve aircraft structures. 
  11. Assess risks associated with aviation maintenance operations.
