CNC Turning Diploma

The CNC Turning Diploma is a 6-month award option designed to give the student entry level knowledge as an CNC Lathe machinist.  The program provides a study of the basic machine tools in theory and laboratory applications.  The diploma can lead to entry level employment as an CNC lathe operator.

The program is accredited through the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) providing students the opportunity to achieve the following NIMS certifications:

Measurement, Material & Safety
Job Planning Benchwork & Layout
Lathe I
CNC Turning Operator
CNC Turning: Setup, Programming & Operations

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Practice safe operation of industrial equipment in the laboratory.
  2. Demonstrate proper selection and use of the various measuring tools related to machining.
  3. Demonstrate proper operation and setup of an engine lathe and its accessories.
  4. Analyze and interpret blueprints utilized for proper machining of industrial parts.
  5. Demonstrate entry-level competency in the operation, setup and programming a CNC Lathe.
  6. Describe and demonstrate the various hand tools used in machining.
